Brazilian star Ronaldinho has given Mauro Tassotti his backing to replace Leonardo on Milan's bench.
Leonardo announced his decision to leave the club on Friday after just one season in charge of the Rossoneri.
Tassotti is one of the frontrunners to take the job, although he could also be an assistant to Filippo Galli.
Speaking at the Golden Foot awards in Monte Carlo, Ronaldinho said: “Mauro worked with Carlo Ancelotti for many years.
“He knows Milan well. He has been here for years and if this opportunity were to arrive for Mauro, he has everything to do well.”
Ronaldinho then reflected on Leonardo's decision to leave the club.
“He is a friend and I respect him a lot as a Coach. There is something special in him because he played for many years and knows how to deal with a footballer.”
The 30-year-old former World Player of the Year also spoke about his own future.
“I don't know what will happen in a year or so, but I am happy here.
“I have spent two wonderful years here in which many people, not just those from Milan, have given me a lot.”
Finally Ronaldinho gave his reaction to being left out of Brazil's squad for this summer's World Cup in South Africa.
“I will not watch Brazil. I will support Brazil. But I like playing not watching,” he concluded. (www.acmilan-online.com)
